Wobble While You Work: a Review of Kore Wobble Chairs

I received complimentary stools from Kore Designs, LLC. in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Please read my disclaimer in the footer for more information.

He literally fell out of his chair.

I had heard about a child doing this. I know kids with ADHD and autism have trouble staying seated but while working with my son one day (I won’t tell you which one but I bet some of you can guess ;)), he fell out of a perfectly good chair.

The “wiggles” are a general term we use for not being able to keep your body still. There are some pretty convincing reasons put forth by the folks at Brain Balance Achievement Centers® why this might be connected to primitive reflexes that have not turned off in some children. You can read those reasons here.

Regardless of the reasons, one thing was clear…I needed some sort of support to keep my child upright long enough to get through a page in math.

Why Kore?

We have tried exercise balls, trampoline breaks, wobble seats, weighted lap mats, and lying on the floor to do school. These have all helped in one way or another but in the end none of them proved to be a lasting solution.

Call it a lofty goal (as it may be for a mother of a child with ADHD…) but I wanted my son to have an upright education experience.

Trampoline breaks are good but disrupt the work flow. Working on the floor is an option but a pain in my neck and does nothing good for his handwriting.Weighted lap mats and are restraining more than supporting. Exercise balls and wobble seats may allow him to sit upright, but with lots of slouching not to mention I’ve seen him go flying off the exercise ball and sliding off the seat (or, rather, the seat sliding out from under him) plenty of times. And depending on the size of the table, he cannot properly reach his work.

Was there a solution that could make my lofty dreams come true?

Enter Kore Wobble Chairs.

I came across Kore Wobble Chairs – the leader in active sitting – on Amazon and after reading some great reviews, I knew this was the chair I wanted to try. I was more than excited to review it.

Kore Wobble Chairs bring back the lost art of sitting up strait. This isn’t some stuffy Edwardian custom; there are many benefits of practicing proper posture. While you certainly could slouch on a Kore stool, the simple design of the stool encourages you to do otherwise.

The Kore website touts that the chairs keep the child’s mind from wandering and that is certainly true. When the focus is off “I have to stay in my seat…how can I stay in my seat?…” it can then be on “what is 29 x 13?”

Ideal for children with ADD or ADHD, as well as a strong way to keep focus, the Kids Kore Wobble Chair provides an outlet for restlessness and extra energy. This means a higher level of attention, focus, and retention for each and every student.

So what makes Kore Chairs unique?

As far as I’m concerned, the Kore Chair is the conglomeration of many supports we’ve used in the past without the downsides. The stools have the flexibility of an exercise ball, the security of a weighted lap mat, the core stimulation achieved when jumping on a trampoline and the wobble of a wobble seat with the fun that comes of lying on the floor. The stool truly is the chair to meet all seating needs.

Here’s a great quote from the website that sums it all up:

We simply weren’t designed to sit still all day, yet many of us do – at work, at home, in a studio or classroom, in front of a computer. Kore chairs rock and spin on a gently domed base, encouraging active sitting and exercising the back.

So how do we use it?

Here’s some still shots of the kids on the chairs…

This is actually a kids’ size, not a pre-school. As usual, Little Miss is trying to be bigger than she is.

This is the kids’ adjustable size chair. Notice the indents on the base perfect for slipping your heels into.

If a picture’s worth a thousand words, a video must be worth more. Here are our chairs in action…

Kore Wobble Chairs stand out for 7 main reasons:

  1. Size options
There is a Kore chair for every member of your family. Kids, Teens, and Adults all benefit from these fantastic chairs.
  2. Adjustable height
With four kids, I can’t be buying and re-buying chairs like I do new shoes. The adjustable height of the teen, college, and adult chairs allows for many years of use.
  3. The Executive Chair
I thought I was shopping for the kids – and I was – but then I saw the Executive Chair. The chair has a rubberized bottom, non-skid and weighed base so you’re sure to stay upright even on hard wood floors.  The rounded base keeps you stable while moving with you and allowing you to burn calories.
  4. Color options
This is just fun. Add personality to your purchase by getting the color that most suits your child. There are many fun colors to choose from.
  5. Availability
You are one click away from getting this fabulous chair (if you have Amazon one-click) or you can visit one of these fine retailers.
  6. Ease of Construction
I cannot tell you how happy my husband was to open a slim box and have the chair put together in less than five minutes.
  7. Assembled in the USA
    Isn’t that nice to know?

So you’re thinking…sounds great, anything else I should know before I buy one?

Heads up that the toddler, pre-school, kid, and pre-teen chairs are not adjustable. You’ll need to get a teen chair for the adjustability but my tweens fit perfectly on it and I am pleased I won’t have to buy another one until they head off to college. Also, the kids chairs to not have the rubber bottom so although it is very rare, they can slip a bit on hardwood.

All in all, these chairs belong in your schoolroom – for you and your child to enjoy and benefit from.

Would your child benefit from a Kore Wobble Stool?
